About The Speaker
Satish Kumar is a former monk and long-term peace and environmental activist. In his early 20s, Satish embarked on an 8,000-mile peace pilgrimage. Carrying no money and depending on the kindness and hospitality of strangers, he walked from India to America, via Moscow, London and Paris, to deliver a humble packet of ‘peace tea’ to the then leaders of the world’s four nuclear powers. Satish appears regularly in the media and in recognition of his commitment to animal welfare and compassionate living, he was elected vice-president of the RSPCA. He is Editor Emeritus of Resurgence & Ecologist magazine, co-founder of Schumacher College and co-founder of the Network of Wellbeing. He continues to teach and run workshops on reverential ecology, holistic education and voluntary simplicity in Devon, UK. Satish’s latest book, Pilgrimage for Peace: The Long Walk from India to Washington has just been published and is available from www.resurgence.org/shop
The event will be hosted by Dr Mark Williamson from Action for Happiness.
